More Ghanaians Own Cattle Than Fulanis - Dr. Kunbuor

Dr Benjamin Kunbuor, Minister of the Interior, on Monday said Ghanaians own most of the cattle in the country compared to 0.3 per cent owned by Fulanis. He noted that being a Fulani was not coterminous with being a foreigner as there were some people who were Ghanaians but being called Fulani through kinship. Dr Kunbuor was reacting to a contribution made by Major Derek Yaw Oduro (rtd), Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North, on the budget debate on the floor of Parliament. Major Oduro said Fulani herdsmen had invaded the country and disturbing the citizenry but the security agencies were not protecting them against Ghanaians. Dr Kunbuor explained that there was an order stipulating that on no grounds must the security agencies protect criminal foreigners against Ghanaians, adding, prosecution of offenders must not be based on ethnicity. Mr Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Minority Leader, explained that Major Oduro was not talking about ownership of cattle as percieved by the Interior Minister.
