Ghana Discovers Iron Ore

Ghana has discovered large deposit of iron ore at Sheini Hills in the Zabzugu Tatale District of the Northern region. The Sheini Hills iron ore project is anticipated to contribute significantly to the growth of the Ghanas economy. Speaking at the commissioning of Emmaland and Cardero Ghana Limited building, Emmanuel Ababio, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, said the mining of iron ore marked the beginning of a new era for Ghanas economic development. Emmaland and Cardero Ghana Limited has been issued with license to develop the Sheini iron ore deposit in the Zabzugu Tatale District in the Northern region. He said the company has the capacity to employ thousands of people, provide basic infrastructure, improve upon the living condition of the people in the catchment area and transform the country. Mr. Ababio said as part of the companys social responsibility even before the project fully takes off, it has graded the road to link Zabzugu to the Sheini and rehabilitated the abandoned presidential lodge at Zabzugu which they will use as their office. They have also equipped the district assemblies with computers to facilitate their work. He commended government and the people of Ghana, the Mineral Commission, EPA, the Northern Regional Administration, the Zabzugu-Tatale District Assembly, the regent and the people of Dabon and the surrounding communities and all others who have contributed to the companys achievement. This, he said, would give them the opportunity to close the gap between the North and the South. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, who helped to officially commissioned the companys modern head office in Accra said, Government has created the enabling environment for the country to reduce the unemployment rate to the barest minimum by the end of 2012. He said government applauds efforts by indigenous Ghanaian companies to partner with multinational ones to create jobs, adding, Government will therefore want to assure the management and investors that as long as they work within the tenets of the laws of the land, the state will continue to support them. Elizabeth Sackey, Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikoi North constituency asked people in the communities and all others who would be offered various employment opportunities to be totally committed, disciplined and hard working to justify the confidence reposed in them and to contribute towards the successful story of Cardero Resources Ghana Limited. In this way, she said, they would be able to develop themselves, their families and communities so that our dear nation will be the ultimate beneficiary. She reminded the management of Cardero Resources Ghana Limited that they have a huge social responsibility in the communities and urged them not to renege on any promises made to the communities.
