The Parliament of the Republic of Ghana has set up a special 13-member committee to investigate allegations of criminal activities by herdsmen believed to be of Fulani descent. The committee is also expected to investigate the shooting incident that occurred in Gushegu in the Northern region on Tuesday, which claimed the lives of some 13 people including two women. The committee chaired by Hon. Dr. Ahmed Alhassan Yakubu is expected to submit its report in 10 weeks. Joseph Boahene is the vice chairman of the committee. Other members are Hon. Haruna Bayariga, Albert Abongo, Hon. Simon Edem Tekyimaa, Theophilus Tetteh, Francis Kojo Attah, Wiafe Peprah, Anim Adu Antwi, Kwame Ampofo, Dominic Nitiwul, Hajia Halijie and Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey. As part of their terms of reference the committee has been tasked to investigate allegations of misconduct including criminal activities by herdsmen in Agogo and other parts of the country. The committee is also expected to investigate the ethnic background of the herdsmen and inquire into how they entered the country. They are also to investigate the effects of the activities on human life, properties and the environment and also make recommendations to forestall any future occurrence and finally make recommendations that the committee might deem appropriate.
