Kufuor To Receive International Awards In Washington

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor left Accra Sunday night for Washington DC to receive two separate awards for his exemplery leadership qualities. A statement signed by the former President�s spokesperson, Mr Frank Agyekum, said the first is by the Leon H. Sullivan Foundation which will honour him as �Champion of Democracy and Development in Africa,� at its 10th annual Honours celebration. The second is by the Africa Leadership Magazine for �showcasing the qualities of a good leader to the world. � The Leon Sullivan award acknowledges individuals and entities for their contribution to democracy and development, corporate citizenship, international leadership and African leadership. Among those to be honoured at a gala night at the Marriot Wardman Park Hotel include former US President Geroge W Bush as �Global Champion for Africa,� Dr. Jean Ping, the Chairman of the African Union Commission, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea and Chairman of the African Union for his contribution to the Union. Chevron Corporation and Coca-Cola Company will be honoured for their contribution to African Corporate Citizenship. Before arriving in Washington, Former President Kufuor will stop over in Houston, Texas, where he will be hosted by former President Bush.
