The Forum for Governance and Justice has said the latest case of swapped cocaine exhibit in the custody of an Accra Circuit Court vindicates its strongly held stance that the justice delivery system in the country is muddled in corruption.
The forum claimed the incident, where a substance tested as cocaine metamorphosed into baking soda, is just one of the numerous corrupt practices that have engulfed the justice delivery system in Ghana and needs a massive overhaul.
The group warned that Ghana risks becoming a drug country like Mexico if drastic measures are not taken to purge the judiciary of corrupt elements.
The convener of the forum, Dr. Clement Apaak, told Citi News that �we believe that we have been vindicated because something has gone wrong in the system of justice delivery. �
�There is no way that anyone could believe that it is possible for a substance that was tested and confirmed to be narcotic can suddenly become sodium bicarbonate after it has been taken into possession.
�The only thing that makes sense is to assume that a corrupt act has taken place leading to what has become an embarrassment to the justice delivery system of our nation,� Dr. Apaak added.
He stated, �We have to question the processes of the relationship between lawyers who are defending clients or plaintiffs and magistrates and lawyers sitting on such cases.
�At every level of the justice delivery system, work needs to be done to ensure that those who are paid to do the work of the people conduct themselves honestly and justly. �
