Gov't To Provide Alternative Roads To Ease Congestion - VEEP

Government has embarked on the construction of by-passes as alternative roads to ease congestion on the Mallam-junction- Kasoa and Tetteh Quarshie-legon roads, Vice President John Dramani Mahama, has said. He said commuters between Mallam-Junction and Accra, who spend about two hours before reaching their destinations, could now cover the same journey within 20 minutes through the newly created Panbros- Dansoman road. The Waterworks road around Awoshie sub base works for the entire six kilometres has been completed and primer sealing works shall be completed by December 20, 2011, and the road shall be opened to traffic immediately, he added. Vice President Mahama said these when he inspected roads under construction in Accra to acquaint himself with progress of work. He inspected the Tetteh Quarshie-Apenkwa, Abeka Lapaz-Awoshie, Mallam-Junction Weija and the Dansoman major roads. He gave the assurance that works on the Mallam-Junction-Awoshie and Apenkwa Lapaz roads, which were sponsored by the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA Compact I) would be completed before the February 2012 deadline, and appealed to commuters to bear with the contractors.
