Kufuor Receives Two Awards For Good Leadership In The US

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor returned home Tuesday night from Washington with two awards from the Reverend Leon H Sullivan Foundation and the African Leadership Magazine. The Leon Sullivan Foundation honoured the two-term Former President as �Champion of African Democracy and Development� at it its 10th Awards ceremony, at the plush Marriot Wardman Park Hotel. This was in a statement the Spokesperson for the former President, Mr Frank Agyekum, signed. Known as the �Sullivan Honours� the awards highlights the achievements of individuals and entities that have provided exemplary service to the cause of humanity in Africa. Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obassanjo and Equatorial Guinean President Teodoro Mbasogo Obiang were the other winners from Africa. Congressman Bobby Rush, who worked with the late Reverend Sullivan, was awarded for his contribution towards building bridges between �Africans in the Diaspora and those on the motherland.� Reverend Peter Mathews and Reverend Tony Lee were honoured as �Sullivan Soldiers� for living the dreams of Rev Sullivan. Dignitaries present included, Mr. Guillaume Soro, the Prime Minister of Cote d�Ivoire, Dr. Paul Wolfowitz, a Former President of the World Bank and Dr Rajiv Shah, Administrator of the US Agency for International Development who represented President Barrack Obama, Members of the US Congress and diplomats. The ceremony coincided with the 20th anniversary of the award of the US Presidential medal to the late Rev Sullivan for his fight for empowerment of the African and abolition of apartheid in South Africa. Each of the awardees was presented with a medal and a citation. The night�s events ended with performance by R & B singer Tyrese, among others. The African Leadership Magazine based in the US, awarded Former President Kufuor for being a �model of good leadership in Africa� at a separate ceremony. President John Atta Mills was awarded for his continued good works in managing affairs of the country. President Mills and former President Kufuor were among eight dignitaries who were honoured in the Fourth Honours Ceremony by the magazine. Each of the winners received a plague. President Mills was represented by Mr Daniel Ohene-Agyekum, Ghana�s Ambassador in the US and Former President Kufuor was represented by Mr Frank Agyekum, his Spokesperson.
