Fuel Station In Flames At Shama

A fuel Station at Shama Junction in the Shama District in the Western caught fire in the early hours of Thursday, burning four vehicles including three fuel tankers and other equipment of the station. A nearby residential facility which was said to belong to the owner of the fuel station called Bano Oil was also damaged by the inferno, which occurred when fuel was being discharged into an underground reservoir. Residents nearby the facility were said to have quickly evacuated to avoid further destruction. Fortunately, there was no loss of life. According to eyewitnesses, one of the fuel tankers loaded with the consignment arrived at the station at about 8:30 a.m. They said the driver of the vehicle had gone through the process and had begun discharging the fuel when an explosion occurred resulting in the fire. They said people at the scene and the attendants at the station tried to contain the fire with extinguishers. �But within a short time the fire went out of control and engulfed the whole station, a witness who gave his name only as Tawiah said. Other eyewitnesses said the fire was so intense that it took fire engines from the Takoradi Port, the Western Regional Fire Service and the Apremdo Fire Station to control it to prevent it from spreading to other residential facilities.
