Those calling for the head of NDC financier, Alfred Woyome, may be disappointed because President John Evans Mills has said beneficiaries of various judgment debts amounting to GhC 2. 7 billion as captured in the Auditor General�s report are not the target of his investigations.
According to President Mills, his target are those whose actions or inactions may have resulted in the beneficiaries of the various judgment debts dragging the state to court in the first place.
A GhC 42 million judgment debt awarded Mr. Woyome who dragged the state to court over what he claimed was an illegal termination of a contract to renovate some stadia in the country ahead of the 2008 African Cup of Nations has spurred a lot of controversy in recent weeks.
The opposition NPP has called on the President to set up an independent body to investigate the matter.
They have also faulted President Mills� referral of the case to the Economic and Organized Crimes Office (EOCO).
President Mills also told Radio Gold on Friday at the Castle, Osu that a lot of progress has been made in investigations concerning the recent cocaine-turned-baking soda exhibit.
He said anyone found culpable in the yet-to-be presented report of the four-member committee which probed the matter will definitely be prosecuted.
Meanwhile, NPP�s National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey has told Citi News that President Mills� comments on the Woyome saga betrays his lack of independence in the matter and his intent on protecting corrupt members of his party.
