Raid on John Terrys family home Foiled

ENGLAND captain John Terry's home was raided as he played at Tottenham on Thursday with his family inside. The would-be thieves struck while Terry starred for Chelsea in a thrilling 1-1 draw. Under cover of darkness, they used a scaffolding pole to try to smash their way through a fence around the 6.5million mansion. But they fled when the footballer's security team arrived. It is believed Terry's wife Toni and their twins Georgie John and Summer Rose, five, were at home in Oxshott, Surrey. Terry's mother Sue and Toni's mum Sue Poole are also thought to have been with them. The defender, 31, has not reported the incident so police are as yet not investigating. It is the latest setback in a fraught week for Terry. On Wednesday, it was announced he would be charged by the Crown Prosecution Service for allegedly aiming on-pitch racist remarks at QPR's Anton Ferdinand. The Spurs fans booed him on Thursday but his late goalline clearance secured the draw. Terry joins a growing list of footballers, including Liverpool's Steven Gerrard and Manchester United's Ashley Young and Darren Fletcher, who have had their homes targeted while out playing. Last week, Stoke City's Peter Crouch and his model wife Abbey had jewellery, watches and Christmas presents stolen in a 100,000 raid at their 4.5million Cheshire home.
