Gunshots At Bawku....

Sporadic gunshots were on Monday night heard in the Bawku district of the Upper East region. The latest seeming violence is believed to be connected with the upcoming Samampede festival. No causalities have so far been recorded. The Bawku Divisional Police Commander, ACP Peprah Boadu told Citi News that the Mamprusi youth in the area are to blame for the latest incidence of violence. He said his position is informed by a letter from the Mamprusi youth where they stated that because they were not allowed to celebrate the Damba festival and also perform the burial rites for the late Ya Na Yakubu Andani, they will stop the celebration of the Samampede festival. According to the Police, attempts to arrest the leader of the Mamprusi Youth for questioning have so far proved futile. ACP Boadu however said the Police is on high alert to forestall any further occurrences. Meanwhile, an opinion leader of the Mamprusi Youth, Mohammed Tahiru Namde has told Citi News that his people are unhappy with the latest development and want peace. He said a few miscreants can be blamed for the latest incident and calls on the Police to take action.
