The Northern regional youth organizer of the Convention People�s Party (CPP), Alhaji Mutala Kwame, has predicted the party�s doom in 2012 if its 2008 flagbearer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom quits and decides to go independent. Dr. Nduom is scheduled to address a press conference on Wednesday, December 28 to clarify his future with the party. Alhaji Mutala and other concerned CPP members are convinced that the party could record the worse electoral performance in 2012 if Dr. Nduom contests the presidential election as an independent candidate. Speaking to Citi News in Tamale, he tasked the executive council and the CPP national leadership to implore Dr. Nduom to stay and contribute towards the party�s victory in 2012. �When you hear what is coming from the campaign team of Dr. Nduom, it is likely that he will contest as an independent candidate and we are appealing to the national executives to make sure that he does not contest in 2012 as an independent,� he said. Alhaji Mutala described the former MP as an �astute politician� whose financial commitment towards the party�s rejuvenation cannot be underestimated for which reason he must not quit. On the issue of his earlier description of the CPP national chairperson, Samia Nkrumah as an �NDC mole� in the CPP, he rendered an unqualified apology to her and the entire party leadership. He stressed the need for the various splinter groups within the CPP to do away with their differences and unite for victory in 2012. �Ghanaians are fed up with the NPP and the NDC and are looking for a third force which is the CPP to rule the country in 2013 and we cannot win the elections with a divided family,� he maintained. Meanwhile, some CPP delegates in the Trobu-Amasaman constituency have also appealed to the leadership of the CPP to apologise to Dr. Nduom. Speaking to Citi News, the Secretary of the constituency, George Gyebi-Gabrah has said the treatment meted out to Dr. Nduom is nothing to write home about. The CPP leadership has come under a lot of pressure to hold an early congress which has led to confusion in the party. Gyebi-Gabrah, however, said Dr. Nduom is the centre of the party and his departure from the party will spell doom for the party�s electoral chances.
