SSNIT To Increase Pension By 5%

By the end of this month, the annual increment for pensioners will go up 5 percent. This is according to the Social Security and National Insurance trust (SSNIT) which is the custodian of pensions in Ghana. The increment is in compliance with section 80 of Act 766 which obliges SSNIT to increase the Pensioners pension annually. It is not only 5%, it is increasing at a fixed rate of 5% in addition to a flat rate of 15 Ghana cedis and 27pesewas, per pensioner, which means that as at December 2011, if your pension was at a 100 Ghana cedis, there is an addition of 5%. There is also an addition of 15 Ghana cedis and 27 pesewas across board, The corporate affairs manager for SNNIT, Eva Amegashie explained to Citi Business News. For those pensioners who per the calculation of their salaries would not get to enjoy the 50 cedis 46 pesewas, Miss Amegashie also has assured that SSNIT will top it up for them.
