NS THUNDER, a brand new Nigerian Warship built in the United States of America (USA), last Sunday berthed at the Tema Ports for a demonstration. The huge ship with hundreds of personnel onboard docked at the Marine Wharf at the Tema Port where it hosted many Nigerian and Ghanaian guests during a reception to celebrate one of Nigeria�s maritime achievements. Speaking to DAILY GUIDE at a reception held on the ship last Tuesday, Ambassador (Senator) Musiliu O. Obanikoro, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, was happy his country had acquired the NS Thunder to protect Nigerian waters. �We chose Ghana for the demonstration of our warship because we want to continue cementing our strong ties with this wonderful country and to demonstrate to the world that our warship has arrived to protect the Nigerian waters,� the Ambassador told the gathering at the ceremony. NS Thunder has not entered its mother country since its acquisition, and Ghana is the first country to host the huge warship. His Excellency Obanikoro expressed joy at the development and added that it was clear indication of the peaceful co-existence between his country and Ghana. Congratulating Nigeria for the acquisition of the warship, Real Admiral Matthew Quarshie, Chief of Naval Staff of Ghana was grateful to Nigeria for bringing the ship to Ghana for a demonstration. The warship, he said, would be able to provide the necessary marine security for Nigeria. Present at the reception were Nii Osonga Adjei Kraku II, the Tema Chief, Robert Kempes Ofosuware, the Tema Mayor, Ishmael Ashiettey, a member of the Nana Akufo-Addo campaign team for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), among others. NS Thunder left the shores of Ghana for Nigeria on Wednesday where it is due to receive a mammoth reception by the citizens. Earlier in the night, some navy crew onboard the warship performed what they called the sunset piece during which a flag was hoisted to salute NS Thunder.
