Ghana Must Win Next CAF Award

Ghana has hosted the prestigious GLO CAF Awards three times, yet no Ghanaian player has emerged winner on all occasions. And this has stirred soccer maestro Abedi Ayew Pele to charge Ghanaian players and the media to give a critical thought of the situation. Ghana has hosted the CAF Awards three times but none has come in our favour. I think we should give a critical thought to this, he said at a press soiree at Osu last Friday. A Ghanaian must win the next CAF Award regardless of the venue. Ghana needs it, and we must work harder towards that, he added. He expressed gross thanks to all, especially the media who have contributed in one way or the other for the success story of his son Dede Ayew, who was crowned BBCs African Best recently. Pele, former skipper of the Black Stars, was the continents best player for three years running-1991, 1992 and 1993. Dede came close to following in his dads footsteps but placed third in the just-ended edition held at the State House in Accra. Meanwhile, the football legend was not certain about Ghanas chances in the forthcoming Nations Cup to be co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. To say Ghana will lift the ultimate is difficult; but I can say we will shine, taking into account the strength of the team and their commitment, said Abedi.
