Good Samaritan Driver Fined GH�1200

A Cape Coast circuit court on Wednesday fined a 36-year-old driver, Benjamin Adomako Yeboah, GHc1,200.00 for committing motor traffic offences. Yeboah who pleaded guilty to negligently causing harm through careless and inconsiderate driving would go to prison for 20 months in default. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Charles Anku told the court presided over by Mrs Florence Kai Otu that on November 26, 2010, at about 2230hrs Yeboah was driving of a Kia Mighty truck with registration number CR 482-09.from Twifo Praso to Abrem Agona. He said on reaching Efutu near Cape Coast he picked 21 people who had closed from church service and were standing by the road stranded and that in negotiating a curve at the Abrem Essiem junction the vehicle developed brake failure and the truck somersaulted in the process. Chief Inspector Anku said the passengers who were on board fell from the bucket of the vehicle and sustained various injuries. He said with the help of passersby the victims were rushed to the Central Regional Hospital where one of the victims, one Aba Gyakye an expectant mother was pronounced dead on arrival. Chief inspector Anku told the court that the owner of the truck had since paid for the cost of the funeral of the deceased and the medical bills of the injured victims.
