Another Four Years As President For What?

The year 2011 saw a lot of revolutions in the world where some heads of states were forced out of power either by peoples power or by rebels. From Tunisia through Egypt to Libya, heads of states were forced out of power. From Yemen and Syria we saw and continue to see demonstrations by organized groups calling for the removal of their heads of state citing corruption, poverty and unemployment as their case. In Ghana we also saw a lot of demonstrations by organized professional groups such as teachers, farmers and fishermen, nurses, doctors and many more demanding for better living conditions from the government. Accordingly, the government was putting too much pressure on the people as it made life so unbearable for the ordinary people on the streets therefore making their voices heard through demonstrations and strikes. Therefore it was so much surprising to watch the president on television patting his own should claiming to have done so much for the people and he should be re-elected where in fact nothing has been done to better the lives of Ghanaians. 1. CORRUPTION One of his campaign messages to the people was that the NPP government at that time was so corrupt that nothing could save the situation than to vote it out and bring in probity and accountability government which was the NDC. The New Patriotic Party lost the 2008 general election and gave way to the NDC government to solve whatever corruption practices that it cited in the system. When journalist met him at the first editors forum at the castle and complaint of corrupt ministers in his government, he challenged them to come out with evidence if they have any. Ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas exposed the corruption at the countrys borders as far as smuggling of cocoa was concern, the rot at the Tema Harbour by covering criminal activities of customs officers and now the old man at the castle is not talking about corruption. As if they were nothing, look at the WOYOME money making machine. Corruption at its highest point and the old man who promised me and everyone that he will uproot corruption is looking on unconcern and you think he deserves another four years as president of Ghana? 2. PROBITY AND ACOUNTABILITY Can someone be able to tell me whether there is probity and accountability service being run by the current government in Ghana? I hope not. No because there is none currently in the country. If yes then why majority of the people who have the right to complain about certain corrupt activities going in the country are being denied the opportunity to reach the president for answers or correction? Once again when the oldman was coming he promised to render an accountability government to the good people of Ghana or he did not promise that? Is rendering of accountability government the act of assembling few editors in a secret room and prepare favourable questions for them to go and ask the president? A president gets onboard an airplane and goes to hide himself in America in the name of taking a sabbatical leave without the good people knowing where he was and asking for the where about of the president and that is accountable government. With in four years of his first term of government, not even a single major road network has been constructed to ensure accident free journey in the country as more accidents are taking place everyday causing deaths of hundreds of people. A whole minister of roads and transport was caught in bribery and corruption net as he received a brand new car bought for him from the money meant to construct a road and what the president did was towing the said car to the castle and kept the corrupt minster at post and is this accountable government? 3. GENERAL ECONOMIC HARDSHIP The incumbent government has failed in delivering good governance to the people especially in the area of economic security. It so worrying to know that every single day, workers are complaining of too much hardship in the system. Prices of food stuff have shot up drastically, school fees unbearable, utility bills way too much, fuel price increases sickening, poor conditions and service as well as unemployment killing in the country so how can the president ask that he should be elected to serve another four years term of office as a president? There are so many areas to look at in assessing the capabilities of the president in serving another term of office as a president of the country which will not score even five percent marks for him to achieve that aim. In reality the NDC government has failed the good people of Ghana as there is too much pressure on the people to struggle to survive. There is no way to deny that fact as saying it directly as is supposes to be said without one scratching the head. Even Ghanaians living in the diaspora felt the heat as incessant calls from kith and keen back home during the Christmas occasion demanding for dollars and not cedis complaining of economic hardship goes to prove that point. No but did you take your time to do some follow ups at the money gram centers, western union money transfer offices and the banks as well? You would have observed long queue spilling over onto the streets as people gathered to collect their remittances. If the economy has been put under sound control as being lying about you should not expect to see nor hear almost everybody picking his cell phone and using the president name to dupe relatives in foreign destinations. All said and done, the four years of president Atta Mills NDC government has failed and he does not deserve another term of office. Ghanaians need to kick him out come December elections. End.
