Emelia Arthur Quits Race For NDC Shama Ticket

Madam Emelia Arthur, Deputy Western Regional Minister, who was contesting the Shama seat for the 2012 elections, has willingly accepted the decision of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to disqualify her from the contest. Addressing a press conference at Ohiamadwen in the Shama constituency of the Western Region on Thursday, Madam Arthur who was contesting with Mr Gabriel Essilfie, the incumbent MP, said she does not intend to review the NDC national leadership�s decision on the matter. Primaries for the Shama constituency which was scheduled for last Saturday, was suspended because of internal wrangling, Madam Arthur being the bone of contention. It will now be held on January 28. She took the opportunity to congratulate Mr Essilfie, who is now standing unopposed. �I wish now to congratulate him for his de facto nomination as the NDC candidate�. Madam Arthur expressed gratitude to her numerous supporters for their unflinching support that boosted her morale and urged them to remain committed so together they help transform the constituency. According to Madam Arthur, �I will announce my intentions regarding the 2012 parliamentary elections at a similar event in a few weeks after I have thought things through with my colleagues, family and friends�. She did not take questions from the media or the public.
