Oil Marketing Companies To Face Stricter Rules In 2012

Rules governing Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) in Ghana are expected to be more stringent this year, according to its Chief Executive Officer Owusu Agyeman Duah. Mr Duah vowed to track down companies that do not meet the safe requirements. Last week about 12 companies of these OMCs were closed down for poor maintenance on their equipment. The general public is also complaining about being short-changed at the various fuel pumps. Speaking in an interview with Citi Business News, Mr. Duah said the approach is likely to deal with the defaulting ones. We together with the NPA are almost finishing a draft on especially LPG stations, he said. We realise that some plants lack the basic safety necessity and so together with the NPA we can bring those lacking stations up to standard. Meanwhile, one of the marketing companies has admitted some of their members short-changed customers, but most of the OMCs have come together to find ways of solving the problem.
