An Accra-based lawyer representing Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome has petitioned the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), to investigate allegations of forgery against the Editor-in-Chief of the Enquirer newspaper, Mr. Raymond Archer. The petition, dated 25th November, 2011, accuses Mr. Archer of forging signatures to secure a loan from Stanbic Bank to run his newspaper the 'Enquirer' on the blind side of his principal shareholder, Mr. Alfred Woyome. A copy of the petition intercepted by the Searchlight newspaper accuses Mr. Archer of faking the said top lawyer�s signature on a loan agreement letter and presenting it to the managers of the Accra Ridge branch of the Stanbic bank following which Raymond Archer was given the loan to the blind side of the lawyer who played a major role in the establishment of the Enquirer newspaper in latter part of the 2004. Mr. Archer doubles as the founder and leader of the Ghana Centre for Public Integrity (GCPI), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in Accra which is committed to fighting corruption in the country. The said lawyer is Mr. George Selasi Babanawo of Dashen Chambers, an Accra-based legal firm and per the information coupled with documented evidence in possession of the Daily Searchlight, the amount involved is four hundred and thirty two million old cedis (�430,000,000). Besides the faking of the lawyer�s signature to grab the Stanbic loan, Mr. Archer, who is a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party, further allegedly faked a letter purporting to be coming from Babanawo and had it placed on a faked letter head of Dashen Chambers to the effect that Babanawo had transferred back to Archer all the 51 percent of shares he (Babanawo) owned in the company to him (Archer). The shares were to be held by Babanawo for Alfred Agbesi Woyome. According to the information cum the documented evidence, Raymond Archer was said to have embarked on such a dubious act without the knowledge of lawyer Babanawo who played a major role in the establishment of the Enquirer newspaper. The crimes were allegedly committed on November 15, 2004, and so far, Babanawo has petitioned the Director General of the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service over the matter but for no apparent reason the police has failed to arrest Archer. Meanwhile, the Editor-in-Chief of the Enquirer has stated that he was not ready to comment on the allegations but insisted that he has not forged any documents.
