The Executive Director of the Ghana Investment Promotion Center,(GIPC) George Aboagye, has admitted he did not pay for some shots of Bailey�s Irish Cream he bought at Busua Beach Resort in the Western Region last year. Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, while speaking on Adom FM on Tuesday, accused Mr. Aboagye of not paying for food and drinks he bought at the Busua Beach Resort when he visited the place in December. Mr. Aboagye subsequently confirmed the allegation on Adom FM on Wednesday, but claimed he had explanation for his "inability" to pay for the drink. He said his wife celebrated her birthday and, together with some family members and friends numbering about 17, went to the hotel�s restaurant to eat. He said he requested for a bottle of Bailey�s but the waiter told him there were only 20 shots left in the bottle which he agreed to buy. Mr Aboagye, who is the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Ahanta West constituency, said, when the bill was however presented to him, he had been billed for 36 tots instead of the 20 tots originally mentioned by the waiter. The parliamentary aspirant said, under the circumstances, he insisted on paying for the 20 tots, which resulted in an exchange of words with the waiter. He stated that even though the manager of the hotel intervened to calm down tempers, his (Aboagye�s) wife did not take kindly to the manager�s comment that he is a �Fante� and will therefore not cheat on his customers, and called him a �villager.� Mr. Aboagye admitted he supported his wife�s action. When asked when he would pay the hotel for the drinks, he said he would send the money by the end of the day. He said he paid for the cost of the food, but insisted that the cost of the alcohol should be resolved before he makes any further payment, adding �this is why I have not paid for the alcohol all this while.� However, Kennedy Agyapong said Mr. Aboagye�s explanation means he still owes the hotel. The outspoken MP said this is the character of NDC officials and asked for President Mills to relieve the GIPC boss of his post. He argued that if the head of the country�s investment generation office can walk into a restaurant and refuse to pay his bill, then he is not fit for his position. As head of such an important state body, Mr Agyapong said, Mr. Aboagye should lead an exemplary life which will encourage local investors to pay their bills and contribute to the growth of the country�s economy. The MP debunked assertions that he has turned into a debt collector, but said people who are occupying high office and infringing on the rights of people will continue to feel his wrath.
