Goil MD Booted The board of the Ghana Oil Company (GOIL), on Monday, took a decisive action that led to the removal of Kojo Bonsu as its acting managing director. Mr. Bonsu was to act until a substantive boss was appointed for the oil company. No new MD was, however, appointed to replace him. An NDC lawyer, Chris Ackummey and a member of the pro-government advocacy appendage, the Media Analyst Group, has been appointed to act as managing director of the company pending the appointment of a substantive head. Mr. Bonsu, a board member of the company, was put in an acting position on August 1, 2011 following the retirement of the managing director, Yaw Agyemang-Duah on July 31, 2011. He was made to hold the position temporarily until a substantive managing director was appointed. The company put out advertisements calling for applicants for the vacant position. It is alleged that a shareholder of GOIL dragged the company to court over the selection of David Dzanie, a brother of NDK Financial Services boss, Oko Nikoi Dzanie, who is a close associate of President Atta Mills, as substantive head due to the fact that he was in his retiring age at the State Enterprises Commission. The company�s board, which is chaired by Professor William Afiakwa Asomaning of the Biochemistry Department, University Of Ghana, which could no more handle the looming crisis on its hand, took the first step to fire Kojo Bonsu." His removal is however attributed to the fact that he was thought to have adopted a foot-dragging attitude towards helping to appoint a new MD since he was expecting to be confirmed as the substantive MD. Daily Guide sources said Mr. Bonsu, who is also the board chairman of the National Sports Council (NSC), attempted to use his connections with the Castle, the seat of government, to influence the board�s decision but could not succeed in his bid as Castle was rather sponsoring the NDK boss�s brother. With the raging Woyome scandal, sources said the Castle was not in the mood to entertain such an issue. Though Kojo Bonsu has indeed confirmed his removal as the acting MD of GOIL, he said he was not the least worried about it. That, he said, was because he knew from the onset that the position was temporary, �I�m okay, I am very fine,� he responded when asked about how he felt regarding his removal from office. In an interview yesterday, he denied adopting any foot-dragging attitude which was delaying the appointment of a substantive MD for the company.
