Mills Receives EOCO Report On Gh51m Judgment Debt

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Thursday submitted an Interim Report to President John Evans Atta Mills on the controversial payment of judgment debt to businessman Mr Alfred Agebesi Woyome. Presenting the Interim Report to President Mills at the Osu, Castle, the EOCO Boss, Mr Mortey Akpadzi revealed that President Mills intervened on two occasions to stop the payment to the embattled NDC bankroller, but was implicitly snubbed by his officials hence the payment of the GhC51 million "Whatever we have presented is fully backed by the document we have on hand...We know its credible. Well wish to give His Excellence the chance to read...We have realised quite some elements of non-performance on the part of officials who should have done what they have to do. But for the intervention of the President it would have been worse. The actions by past officials were further aggravated by current officials, he added. The head of EOCO further stated that Every Ghanaian have the right to go to court but he [Woyome] doesnt have a basis for that writ. Receiving the report, President Mills immediately asked the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Benjamin Kunbuor, to study the report and advice the government on it. He thanked EOCO and said it was unfortunate that some people failed to cooperate with it during its investigations to unearth the truth. Let the people of Ghana know what you have found because people have their different versions but there can be only one version...it was the actions of past and present officials that resulted in the payment of the judgment debt," he said. 52 million Ghana cedis was paid to Mr Woyome while 38 million Euros was paid to Waterville. The payment was as a result of an alleged abrogation of a contract by the previous Kufuor's Administration for the rehabilitation of the Accra Sports Stadium, El Wak Stadium, both in Accra, and the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi for the 2008 African Cup of Nations.
