The leadership of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has given government up to Tuesday February 7 to restore the subsidies on fuel products or else there will be a nationwide demonstration codenamed �gargantuan demonstration�. The demonstration is expected to come after the second round of Council of Labour meetings in all the 10 regions scheduled for Tuesday February 7. Kofi Asamoah, the Secretary General of the TUC, made this position clear at a news conference on Thursday at the TUC headquarters in Accra. �We have called on government to restore the subsidies and to reduce the fuel prices since our last press conference on January 10, 2012 and government has since failed to heed our call,� he said. He said the leadership after a meeting with the Vice President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, and the government�s economic team yielded no positive result, have resolved to hit the streets after Tuesday February 7. Asamoah added: �The steering committee of the TUC at an emergency meeting held on Wednesday February 1, decided that on Tuesday February 7 we will hold a second round of Council of Labour meetings in all the 10 regions of the country to plan further action in the form of a nationwide demonstration over government�s refusal to restore the subsidies on petroleum products. � He insisted, �the hardships occasioned by these astronomical increases and government on its failure to act swiftly on our demands is a clear indication that dialogue and consultations have failed to yield fruitful results for workers and their families.�
