Woyome Lawyers Roar At Attorney General...

Mr. David Annan, a member of the legal team of detained NDC financier, Mr. Alfred Woyome, has slammed the Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Mr. Benjamin Kunbuor for causing his clients arrest last Friday. We are entirely disappointed that the Attorney General will prove his civil claim by seeking to bring a criminal action against our client Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome, he told Citi News. In any case it is not a matter which we [are] losing and we are not in the least perturbed by this latest action as if it is not one that cannot be supported by the facts, he stated. Mr. Annan told Citi News it was unconstitutional keeping his client in the Police CID cells beyond 48 hours. He added: I think that it is as of this moment unconstitutional because we have a 48-hour period given by Article 14; if you breach that then you are liable to whatever legal action the suspect takes so for all this morning and part of yesterdays night they were in breach of that rule. Mr. Woyome was arrested last Friday on the directive of the Minister for Justice after having advised the President of Ghana, John Evans Atta Mills, on the scandal following the Economic and Organised Crimes (EOCO) offices report on the controversial judgment debt saga. He is expected to be brought to court on Monday. Several NDC youth groups including the Free Woyome Movement and the Concerned NDC members have since called for his immediate release.
