A 27-year-old businessman, Samuel Kwamena Boamah, whose pregnant wife was stabbed several times by armed robbers, has been arrested for being a suspected thief. He was arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command for stealing after he lodged a complaint in a robbery case with the Takoradi Police in the Western Region. Samuel Boamah was arrested on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Takoradi following a stealing complaint lodged against him by one Adamu Mohammed, a forex bureau operator, from whom he allegedly stole an amount of $51,000. Boamah, a native of Apam in the Central Region, had gone to the Western Regional Police Command to report an armed robbery incident in which his four-month pregnant wife received multiple stabs on her abdomen at the hands of a three-member-gang, which left her intestines gushing out. CID officers from the Greater Accra Regional Police who had stormed the area in search of Kwamena finally arrested him after being on their wanted list since 2008. He has since been caged at the cells of the Central Police Station. The Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Frank Adufati, explained that Kwamena Boamah was a security officer at Eurofoods Company Limited (now defunct) at Spintex in 2008. Management of the company had been exchanging money with one Adamu Mohammed who always brought them dollars anytime they needed them. On November 8, 2008, another suspect, who is still at large, known as Ibrahim, called Adamu that he wanted to exchange cedis for $51,000 and promised to call when the cedis were ready. On November 11, 2008, Ibrahim called Adamu to bring the $51,000 for the deal. While Adamu was approaching the premises of the company, he called Ibrahim to inform him that he was almost at his office. Ibrahim later claimed, soon after receiving the message, that he left the office but gave instructions to Kwamena Boamah to transact the business on his behalf. Ibrahim further gave Kwamena�s contact to Adamu who corroborated Ibrahim�s claims. The complainant got to Eurofoods and was met at the entrance of the company. Boamah quickly asked if Ibrahim had brought the $51,000 to which Ibrahim, who did not smell any foul play, responded positively. Boamah took the money and asked the complainant to wait at the entrance while he returned with the dollars. Great Escape Boamah entered the office and never returned with the money as promised. After a long wait without any sign of Kwamena coming back, Adamu moved from office to office in search of him but soon realized that there was a back door which Kwamena had used to escape. The case was reported at the Regional Police Headquarters. Detectives at the Regional Command employed every trick under their sleeves to hunt Kwamena and his accomplice, Ibrahim, but all proved futile. The police later gathered that he had travelled to Switzerland for greener pastures. DAILY GUIDE Publication The long arm of the law however caught up with him on Thursday, January 26, 2012 when Adamu and others called at the Accra Regional Police Headquarters with a copy of DAILY GUIDE newspaper and showed the police a story which had the suspect�s name as a complainant in the robbery and the stabbing of his wife. Samuel Kwamena Boamah has since been charged with the offence at an Accra Circuit Court. He was granted bail in the sum of GH�200,000 with three sureties, two of whom to be justified but has since not met the bail terms. While he languishes in cells, his sweetheart is also recuperating in hospital after the unfortunate incident which ironically gave her husband out. It would be recalled that a four-month pregnant woman, Faizal Boamah, was attacked at her Ituma residence near Shama in the Western Region on December 31, 2011 by a gang of three robbers at about 3:30pm. She was stabbed several times in the abdomen. The victim crawled in a pool of blood for about 100 metres from her room before she was spotted by neighbours who rushed her to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi where she was operated upon. The robbers were rounded up later in their hideouts. They are Yaw Abban aka Yaw Asante, 22, driver, native of Takoradi and resident of Mankessim; Godwin Afira aka Chapters, 22; and Lawrence Yeboah aka Niger, 20, a native of Berekum in the Brong-Ahafo region. Samuel Kwamena Boamah, the husband of the victim, was mentioned as an electrician in the employment of Solar France International in Switzerland. He had returned home in August last year from Switzerland and bought a house at Ituma near Shama where he lived with his wife. New Business In September, he established a driving school called �Rhoda Inn Driving School� at Mankessim in the Central region. Suspect Yaw Abban was an instructor at the driving school, a personal driver and errand boy of the Boamahs. Yaw Abban, somewhere in December 2011, was given a sum of GH�1000 to buy an engine for one of the cars but failed to do so and used the money for his personal gains. It is suspected that Abban masterminded the robbery attack after his boss decided to deduct the amount from his salary. Abban, who became peeved by his boss�s decision, recruited the two others to rob his boss. Godwin Afira on that fateful day posed as a friend of Abban and told Madam Faizal that he was looking for her husband. However, Godwin pulled a knife on Faizal when she attempted to call her husband. Aided by two others, they gagged their victim with pillows while Godwin stabbed her severally in the abdomen and left her to die in a pool of blood while they ransacked the room. The robbers bolted with two laptop computers, a digital camera, cash amounting to GH�15,000, �10,000, building and land documents as well as documents covering Boamah�s vehicles and a car key. The victim, who did not die, was able to name Yaw Abban as one of the suspects and also described the haircut of suspect Godwin Afira. After investigations, the police arrested Yaw Abban on January 12, 2012 at Kaneshie, Accra, while Godwin Afira and Lawrence Yeboah were arrested at Sefwi Awaso the next day. The suspects, during interrogation, confessed to the crime and were charged with the offence.
