Most Reverend Bishop Joseph Afrifa Agyekum, Catholic Bishop of Koforidua, has urged the Youth to pursue holiness by drawing closer to God and reading the Bible constantly. He also advised politicians, parents and other stakeholders to lead lives worthy of emulation by the Youth. Bishop Agyekum was speaking to catholic students in Senior High Schools (SHS) on the 13th St Thomas Aquinas Day celebration at the Pope John SHS in Koforidua. The celebration was to bring students together to socialize and pray to the Saints to intercede on their behalf and also to give them wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Bishop Agyekum expressed worry over foul language being used by some politicians and callers into radio programmes saying, those actions were not worthy of emulation. He said the Youth now looked up to politicians and other high profile people as their role models therefore, they should always mind the words they use. Bishop Agyekum told the students to emulate the noble achievements of St Thomas Aquinas and look up to him as their role model. He asked students to shun bad company and urged them not to forget about their books but learn hard because St Thomas Aquinas despite spending time with his bible was also an academician. Catholic students from SHS meet yearly for the celebration and were taken through symposia to let them know more about God and the significance of the St Thomas Aquinas day celebration. Saint Thomas Aquinas was born in 1224 and died in 1274 and was declared the patron for catholic schools. The programme brought together catholic students from all Senior High Schools in the Eastern Region.
