CPP Volta Regional Conference Slated For February 25

The 3rd Volta Regional Convention People�s Party (CPP) conference will hold its regional officers' election on Saturday February 25, this month at the Bishop Konings Conference Centre in Ho. The conference is under the aegis of the national leadership and the regional steering committee of the Party. A statement signed by Nii Adjetey Sowah, Regional Secretary, said nomination opened on February 1, this year �for all members who are eligible to contest for regional executive positions to do so�. It said nominations would close on February 14 this year and that nomination forms were available at Regional Party Secretariat for a fee of GHc20.00 The statement also listed the filing fees approved by Party Central Committee as follows; Regional Chairman GHc 500.00, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, GHc 400.00, Organizers and Education Secretary, GHc 250.00. It said "a 25 per cent discount applies to all female contestants�, directing that all monies be paid to the Regional Secretariat and that those who had previously filed and paid were excluded from further payment. The statement said �as a result of recent developments in the Party, constituency executive committees have been mandated by the national leadership to appoint interim executives to act in all positions found to be vacant�. A number of CPP executives in the constituencies recently left the Party to join Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom's party, the Progressive People�s Party (PPP). Dr Nduom, who was 2008 CPP flag bearer, broke away to form the PPP. The National Executive of the CPP on January 19, this year held what it called a �family convention� in Ho to evaluate the state of the Party in the region and map out plans for the future. In another statement, the Volta Regional CPP secretariat had announced that primaries to select parliamentary candidates would be held in three phases beginning from March 5, this year. It said nomination forms cost GHc100.00 which was non-refundable and filing fees for males GHc1,500.00, females, GHc750.00 and youth contestants (from ages 21 to 35,) also GHc750.00.
