The lawyers for embattled businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome are expected to fight for his bail as he appears in court today. The financier for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been in police custody since his arrest on the February 3. He was refused bail last Monday when he appeared in court. Mr. Woyome was charged for defrauding the state and conspiracy to commit crime in the controversial GHC51 million judgment debt paid him. Two others, Chief State Attorney, Samuel Nerquaye Tetteh and Mr. Paul Asimenu, a Director at the Legal Department of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, were also remanded into custody. Gifty Nerquaye-Tetteh, wife of the Chief State Attorney, Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh, was charged with aiding and abetment of crime. She was however granted bail in the sum of GHC500,000 and is expected to report to the Police twice weekly. They are all expected to appear in court today. Mr. Woyome is alleged to have transferred about GhC 400,000 from his bank account to Mr. Nerquaye-Tettehs wife right after the judgment debt was paid, but the interim EOCO report failed to mention reasons behind the payment.
