Minister ask Northerners to use Damba festival to pursue peace

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba has called on the people of the region to use the Damba festival celebration, which is the birth and naming of Prophet Mohammed to pursue peace. He noted that Prophet Mohammed, cherished peace hence the need for people in the region and the nation as a whole to emulate the good example. Mr Mabengba made the call in Yendi, when he addressed the celebration of the festival at the palace of the Regent of Dagbon, on behalf of President John Evans Atta Mills. He asked Ghanaians above 18 to patronise the biometric system being organised by the Electoral Commission to replace the old voters register. The Regent; Naa Yakubu Abdulai Andani said Damba showcased the rich tradition and culture of Dagbon whilst the people reunited and planned for the years ahead. He said it was gratifying to know that the theme for this year Damba Festival was Rising from the Ashes for Peace and Development. Naa Andani said the traditional council is organising funerals for late chiefs in Dagbon to pave way for the enskinment of new ones. This, he said, was a step to resolve the Dagbon crisis after the assassination of Yana Yakubu Andani II, the overlord of the traditional area.
