An embattled businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome spent the Valentine�s Day in the Police CID cells although he has been granted a GH�54 million bail by an Accra Commercial Court.
His bail was granted with two sureties on Monday after a rather brief proceeding in court where his lawyers argued for the bail to be granted because the charges preferred against Mr. Woyome were not a first degree felony.
This was after he was denied bail in his first appearance in court after the GH�51 million judgment debt scandal broke. Mr. Woyome�s continued stay in CID grips stems from the fact that his lawyers have not been able to come up with the entire sum needed to stand surety for his release on bail.
There are indications that several assets of the businessman would be used as collateral to complete his release.
Citifmonline. com is however reliably informed that Mr. Woyome�s lawyers, some Lands Commission officials and the police spent most part of Tuesday in the Volta region of Ghana to value some property belonging to the beleaguered philanthropist so as to come up with the total figure demanded by the courts to release him.
Two others deeply entwined in the scandal, the Chief State Attorney of Ghana, Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh and Mr. Paul Asimenu, a Director at the Legal Department of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, have been granted bail in the sum of GhC6,000 with two sureties and are expected to report twice a week to the police.
Mr. Woyome is also expected to report to the police twice a week. The case has been adjourned to February 20
