Beleaguered NDC businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome, accused of fraudulent representation, has finally been released by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, five days after securing bail.
Kwame Tawiah, a Special Assistant to the NDC guru disclosed this piece of information a short while ago.
Mr Woyome was granted bail by an Accra High Court on Monday but failed to satisfy the bail bond of GH�54 million Ghana cedis. His lawyers subsequently went to court and on Thursday, managed to get the amount reduced to GH�20 million cedis with three sureties.
However, they were still unable to meet the required conditions for his release as it became clear that the revised bail conditions was still on the high side for the philanthropist to meet.
Mr. Woyome and three others � Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh and his wife as well as Paul Asimenu - were arrested and charged a fortnight ago over their alleged involvement in the judgment debt payment scandal.
The businessman has been charged with defrauding by false pretense, conspiracy to commit crime and corrupting public officials in the infamous GH�51 million judgment debt paid him after an alleged contract to build and renovate some stadia ahead of the CAN 2008 tournament with the erstwhile Kufuor administration was terminated.
The embattled philanthropist has been in police custody since his arrest on February 3.
Speaking in an interview on the Citi Eye Witness News on Friday, an overjoyed Kwame Tawiah said the release of his boss will afford them the opportunity to plan for the future. He revealed that Mr. Woyome is excited that finally he has come face to face with his family and will be able to enjoy the comfort of his home.
"Glory be to God�we got a release for him and he is full of joy. Now we have the opportunity to work hard for the future�,� Kwame Tawiah said.
