Akufo-Addo Ends Listening Tour

The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has successfully concluded his listening tour of the country. While it marked his fifth nationwide tour since the 2008 presidential elections, the seven-month Listening Tour, inspired by his vision to build a society of opportunities and aspirations for every Ghanaian, has been, in his own words, the best campaigning experience I have had in my 35 years in active politics. The tour, which began, with a prayer session in July 2011 at Akwasiho, Abetifi constituency, has taken the NPP leader to all 10 regions of the country, travelling long distances to big cities, small towns, villages and hamlets. The tour, which ended Friday at the Nkwanta South constituency in the Volta Region, offered the leader of the main opposition party, a first-hand opportunity to hear directly from the Ghanaian people what their concerns, problems and aspirations were. According to the NPP Campaign Manager, Boakye Agyarko, It has been a most humbling and enlightening experience for us all, most importantly, for the candidate. And, I believe it has made Nana Addo more prepared than ever to lead this country. The Director of Operations of the campaign, Lord Commey, has hailed it as the longest, intimate and most enduring campaign regime ever undertaken by any presidential candidate within such a short period in Ghanas history. Lord Commey continued, On a typical day, in one constituency, Nana Addo will walk for five hours, shake anything up to a thousand hands, listen to real life stories from school children to old ladies, and see for himself the challenges and opportunities available in every part of the country. He is determined more than ever to bring the kind of change that will transform both our society and economy, Boakye Agyarko added. Lord Commey said, Saturdays rally at Manste Agbonaa, Jamestown, Accra, will bring to an end the Listening Tour and usher in another round of nationwide tours. Nana Addo will embark on another intensive and extensive tour to restore hope. First, he went and listened. Now, he will go back and restore hope, he said.
