Vice President John Dramani Mahama has condemned the politics of insults and character assassination that is gaining notoriety in political party campaigns ahead of this years� general elections. He noted with deep concern that the situation if not curtailed could mar Ghana�s track record as the �Symbol of hope for Africa�s democracy. � He therefore reiterated the need for Ghanaian politicians to ensure insult free campaigns ahead of the December polls. Vice President John Mahama was speaking at the first Anniversary of the Cedar Mountain Chapel in East Legon, Accra. �Let me say to everybody that these elections would not be won by insults or personality attacks but by a very clear debate on issues and challenges confronting our people; I give my pledge and it is easy for me to do because I have never insulted anybody in my political career and I will never insult or attack any personality. � Mr. Mahama encouraged all the political leaders to espouse the spirit of political tolerance in their followers. �We need to also preach and educate our members because a lot of the time the worse of the insults and fighting are more by the followers than the leaders; It is against this backdrop I emphasize the need for all members of the political parties, foot soldiers and activists to follow that lead and ensure that we have an insult-free campaign leading to a successful elections and that at the end the process God himself shall give us a leader after his own heart. � Mr. Mahama gave the assurance that himself and President John Mills would never engage in the politics of insults and acrimony to retain power. He said �I am sure that I speak for my President when I say that I can guarantee that he would never insult or attack any personality in these elections. � The Vice President also pledged government�s commitment to resource the Electoral Commission to conduct free, fair and transparent elections in December. �On behalf of the government of Ghana I wish to assure you all that we shall work with the Electoral Commission to ensure a free, fair, transparent and peaceful election,� he stated.
