The Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG) located at Fiapre in the Brong Ahafo region has prohibited students from engaging in politics on the University campus from hence forth.
The Vice Chancellor of the CUCG, Prof. James Hawkins Ephraim, announced this on Saturday during the 6th congregation and 14th matriculation ceremony of the university at its Fiapre campus.
According to him, the university is against students� politics on campus and warned students not to bring political groupings such as Tertiary Education Institutions Network of NDC (TEIN) and the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy of the NPP (TESCON) to the university campus. �Don�t bring them into the university. Take it to town so that you do not disturb the workings of the university system,� he said.
Prof. Ephraim said the university management does not know where to place such political groupings in the university structure since they take instructions from their political leaders in town instead of the university authorities and Students Representative Council (SRC).
The VC further explained that such political groupings usually create tension on campus due to the differences among major political parties in the country. He said their activities might disturb the serenity at the Christian university, which adheres strictly to Catholic values.
Prof. Ephraim explained that the ban on partisan politics on the university campus should not be seen as an infringement on the fundamental human rights of the students but a measure to streamline the activities of the students and to create a peaceful atmosphere and unity for all students.
