Extension Of Presidential Term Unnecessary - CPP

The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has described as unnecessary" a suggestion by retired diplomat K. B Asante that the tenure of Ghanaian Presidents should be extended to seven years. Mr. K. B Asante who made the suggestion called for a national debate on the issue. His suggestion buttressed an earlier recommendation made by former President Kufuor that the term of the President should be extended to five years. According to Mr. Asante, the extension will create enough room for succeeding Presidents to execute their national agenda to the fullest. However, speaking to Citi News on the issue, the communications director of the CPP, Nii Armah Akomfrah rubbished the idea saying the current four-year system is enough time for any serious President to govern the nation. I dont accept that idea, I think there is more of a case for the political parties to be better prepared and more efficient because we waste too much time on most of the business that we do in this country Mr. Akomfrah said. He added that I think there will be a case for better management rather than lack of preparation so we should give somebody a seven year term. If the Person is not good then the country is saddled with the person for a very long time which a progressive country like ours cannot afford.
