Mills Lied To Win 2008 Elections

Gideon Boako, the Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that President John Mills peddled lies in 2008 to defeat the presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo Addo. Mr. Boako said the then candidate Mills intentionally told Ghanaians that he would introduce a one-time premium payment under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the heat of the 2008 electioneering campaign. According to him, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration had failed to fulfill its promise to the people after three years in power. Mr. Boako pointed out that the blatant lies told by President Mills influenced several people to vote for him during the last polls. The NPP youth organizer said President Mills is now championing the ineffective Capitation system. He said, Ghanaians need one-term premium in the NHIS from President Mills just as he promised before the elections and not Capitation system, adding that the time has come for politicians to stop taking the people for a ride. Mr. Boako was speaking at the fourth edition of the quarterly public forum organized by the Subin Member of Parliament (MP), Isaac Osei for his constituents last Friday. The days programme, which was attended by astute politicians including the Subin MP, was used to educate the constituents about the current happenings in Ghana and parliament. Mr. Boako said due to bad policies and programmes introduced by the NDC government, poverty had increased in the country in three years. He sneered at the introduction of the Capitation system by the NHIA which is being piloted in the Ashanti region currently, insisting the programme was meant to collapse the NHIS introduced by ex-President Kufuor to help the citizenry. According to Mr. Boako, who is pursuing his Masters Degree at KNUST, the rate being charged by the NHIA for a patient under the Capitation system was woefully inadequate. He warned that several people would die if the government fails to abolish the Capitation, stressing that the NDC is collapsing the NHIS. Mr. Boako therefore urged the citizenry, notably those that are 18 years and above, to register in their numbers when the biometric registration begins. He entreated the electorate to vote massively for Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo to enable him use his rich experience in politics to help save Ghanaians from the present misery and hardship.
