Chiefs in the Gomoa Akyampim Traditional Area have vowed not to allow President John Evans Atta Mills to include some Gomoa communities in the creation of the new Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly. According to the chiefs, some parts of Gomoa Akyampim land namely Gomoa Nyanyano Kakraba, Gomoa Nyanyano among others have been added to the yet to be created Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly. The chiefs claimed the President did not consult them before securing Parliamentary approval to create the district. The angry chiefs noted that people of Gomoa are unique in terms of culture, socio-economic issues, among others and will advise themselves if government goes ahead to create the new district. At a press conference organised at Gomoa Assin in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region over the weekend, the Paramount Chief of Gomoa Akyampim, Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II said any attempt to transfer about 35,000 people from Gomoa to Awutu Senya without notice will hamper the development of Gomoa. Obirifo Ankobea appealed to Parliament to immediately withdraw the Legislative Instrument (L.I. 2025) which will become law by March 2, 2012 to prevent the unlawful act. The vociferous Paramount Chief warned against actions that could disturb the peace in Gomoa. Obirifo Ankobea noted that the people of Gomoa do not have influential personalities to promote the interest of the indigenes. The Paramount Chief said the traditional council will deal drastically with chiefs who will support the creation of the district which could negatively affect the people. He criticized some Members of Parliament (MP) for failing to contribute to issues affecting the people in the House. �Even though we have MPs in the district, some them are just back benchers so we cannot describe such persons in Parliament as MPs,� he stated. �Kojo Botsio, a former Minister under the first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah administration was active in the development of Gomoa but nobody from this area has replicated his actions,� he added. Obirifo Ankobea revealed that the United Nations (UN) did not pay royalties to the traditional council after accommodating refuges at Budumburam Camp. The press conference was attended by chiefs and queen mothers of the traditional council.
