Opha K On The Loose

Opha K has been an irrepressible character with television viewers since he burst onto TV last year on the wings of an MTN Pay For Me commercial whose humour- loaded content caught on well with viewers. Perhaps it was following the obvious success of that short commercial that Opha K returned two seasons ago with a television situation comedy that showcases the Ghanaian way of life from the perspective of the average citizen resident in the bustling city of Kumasi. Currently showing on TV3 (Thursdays at 8:30pm), this drama series is built around the main character, Opha K. His motto in life is anything is possible if you set your heart to it You Can Do, if you believe hence his nick name Opha Kan Do. Opha K runs a bar named after himself which shows live football matches on big screen and occasionally holds concerts and amateur shows where young music artistes come to realize their dreams. His bar becomes the platform through which all aspects of the Ghanaian way of life are exhibited. This is possible due to the people who visit his bar on a daily basis. They include an aspiring football star, Ernest who though from a poor home, is bent on succeeding in life no matter what his challenges are. He exhibits the greatest Can-Do spirit in this series. Opha K is a positive guide towards his achievements through the series. He is also presented as a family man with responsibilities. Dada, Opha Ks sidekick is a mobile phone shop owner who always comes up with all the latest products from MTN and many occasions able to use the technology to assist Opha K in his dealing with others. Joe Wala brings in fun and humour, not partcularly educated, he is Mr. Fix It and has answers to everyone with a problem. He gets on Opha Ks nerves anytime he shows up at the bar because he is able to attract the attention of the females around with his jokes and easy-go-lucky life. This series, its MTN bias notwithstanding, cuts across the young and the old; making it acceptable to a wide range of audiences. This is made possible due to the different shades of cast that appear in every episode. Opha K is produced by Farmhouse Productions.
