A Political Scientist, Mr. Kwesi Jonah, has advised against heavily built men (machomen) taking up roles as citizens vigilante in Ghana come the December parliamentary and presidential elections. Dr. Jonah was speaking in reference to a decision by an association called Macho Men for Good and Justice in Kumasi, who have resolved to partner with the security agencies to maintain law and order in their respective localities as the political campaigns heat up. The group told Citi News they were fed up of being labeled as hooligans during elections. They stated that their main priority was to diffuse the widespread perception that macho men have habitually been appointed by politicians to cause brutalities during elections. However, Mr. Jonah argued that though their intentions are noble, it would be unlawful for macho men to assume such positions during the elections. �Imagine if all civilians, you or I decide to form our own groups ahead of the election; it will be chaotic,� he told Citi News. �Their intentions are good, but they cannot do that.� He said the association could only assist in peace-keeping under the supervision of the national security agencies. Reacting to the widespread perception that such men were violent, particularly during the election period, Dr. Jonah suggested that this could be prevented if the association advised their members not to take the law into their own hands and engage in violence during the elections.
