As parts of efforts in mainstreaming Corporate Social Responsibility in Ghana, the University Of Ghana Business School in collaboration with the private sector and GIZ South Africa has established a CSR centre at the UGBS.
The centre will among other things, create a platform through which knowledge and expertise relating to sustainable CSR activities in businesses can be achieved.
Though there is no comprehensive CSR policy or laws in Ghana, experts say, it is imperative for government to promote CSR by putting in place legislation that defines minimum standards for business performance.
��This is a collaborative effort between the GIZ and the university of Ghana business school, and it rest on a survey we did in 2009 which disclosed that a lot of people were not aware of CSR and those who were aware were not doing it properly��, said, Dr Dan Ofori a senior lecturer at the Department of Organization and Human Resource Management at the UGBS in an interview with The Globe.
Mining companies in Ghana have responded to concerns by embracing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Sustainable Development and �triple bottom line� approaches as a long term strategy for socio-economic development.
Speaking to The Globe in an interview on how to make CSR sustainable in such communities, the Managing Director of African Connections Ghana Limited, Dr Ayeesha S. Hakeem opined that there can be the achievement of sustainable corporate social responsibility when mining communities are involved right from the onset of CSR programs.
The center for corporate social responsibility of the UGBS, has a mission to create a new generation knowledgeable business leaders committed to responsible CSR in business.
