The Attorney General of Ghana, Dr. Benjamin Kumbour, has given the assurance that his outfit will address the raging issue of the controversial judgment debt payments that have engulfed the country.
He said he is meeting with officials in his office, who have been implicated in the GhC 51 million judgment debt scandal awarded to businessman Mr. Alfred Woyome. However, he failed to touch on the explosive press statement from a former attorney general, Martin Amidu.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday, Dr. Kumbour assured that he is on top of the issue and doing his best to bring the issue to an end. He, however, confirmed that members in his office are being impacted by the issues arising from the judgment debt.
Dr. Kumbour also described as unfair, a reportage by sections of the media that he said President John Evans Atta Mills was aware of the payment of 94 million euros in judgment debt to Construction Pioneers when he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee.
�There is a news item today �and it is very unfortunate. I don�t know the extent to which this issue came up. There was no statement like that made by me and I felt a bit livid that in spite of the caution and insistence that people should look at the issue of government in a more holistic manner a particular media house goes ahead to make this statement,� he said.
