Was Nana Akufo-Addo once arrested for possession of narcotic drugs at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, USA?
I am wondering why Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., a member of the Governing Board of a key Akufo-Addo front organisation known as the Danquah Institute, should devote several parts of an article trying to destroy the credibility of a journalist who is simply contradicting a misleading impression being made by the Akufo-Addo team that he has the necessary proof that he has never been arrested in the US for drug offences?
A commentator on Ghanaweb speaks for me, and, I believe many Ghanaians when he wrote:
"Okoampa!!!! What is your motive here? What personal issue do you have with Mr. Mallory? The guy just mentioned the correct dept (administration)that handles such crimes at JFK. Ghanaians are no longer fools. When we ask questions, we demand answers ... and Akuffo Addo's team failed to do that.
Whatever transpired between Mallory and Akuffo-Addo's team doesn't matter."- Author: Akonaba, NJ, Comment: Steve Mallory Owes Credibility Billion, Ghanaweb.com, 2011-08-23 07:33:25. "WRONG FACTS"Okoampa must have heaved a sigh of relief to read the way the
attention was shifting. One commentator even wrote:
"Dear Writer, Just a point of correction, Rightly to mention that Steve Mallory is a product of Konongo-Odumase Secondary School, He never and has never been an employee of The Pioneer newspaper. I know him more than my underwear." - Author: Maclean, Comment: WRONG

"Maclean, Steve Mallory did work with the "Pioneer" in Kumasi, and it is a fact he has never hidden, and he always give credit to the newspaper for giving him a shot at Journalism. I think you should either change your underwear or your friends just saying."

I thought the issue was and still remains: "Was Nana Akufo-Addo once
arrested for possession of narcotic drugs at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, USA?" If what Mr. Steve Mallory is saying are not facts, point out which one of them and say why. At least, he explained why he thinks the Akufo-Addo team is being extremely economical with the truth! If you have any information to challenge his assertion, make them forth-coming! Character assassination would not do the trick, even though
that is your only "ammunition" left!
What Mr. Mallory is saying is that, "categorical statements obtained from the major federal agencies more actively involved with drug cases in the U.S. would have lent more credibility to Akufo-Addos lawyers statement, and would have gone a long way toward clearing the candidates reputation". He also mentions that:
"The three-sentence letter from the Port Authority states: Your letter of February 27, 2008 was received in my office on February 21, 2008, for processing under the Port Authoritys policy on Freedom of Information, copy enclosed. You seek copies of any arrest records related to Nana Akufo-Addo for years 2003 through 2008. We have searched our files and found no records responsive to your request. The letter was signed by Kathleen P.Bincoletto, indentified as the administrator who handles media inquiries based on the U.S. federal law called the Freedom of Information Act. But according to critics, while the letter makes clear that no records of an Akufo-Addo arrest were found in the Port Authoritys office, it does not confirm that no such arrest ever occurred."
Again, he makes the point that:
"The statement from Akufo-Addos lawyer did not say whether any other
American agencies (federal or local) besides the Port Authority and
Metropolitan Authority were contacted regarding possible drug-arrest
records."
Does anyone have anything to say to that? Does it matter whether or not he worked at Ashanti Pioneer? His reaction to the attempt by Mr. Kweku Baako to pull a fast one was very effective and convincing:
"However, the local media in Ghana contacted the DEA office at the U.S. Embassy in Accra for verification of the letters and to seek possible DEA records on the matter. The head of the DEA office at the Embassy, Jeffrey Breeden, was reported as saying the two letters you sent me are from legitimate law enforcement agencies in the U.S., which state the subject has no criminal record in the U.S., and that he saw no need to provide any further verification reference this issue.
Now the issue that arises from this, the paper observed, that: "The Drug Enforcement Administration is concerned with major drug-trafficking operations. Customs and Border Protections primary duties include apprehending individuals attempting to enter the U.S. illegally, and stemming the flow of illegal drugs, and agents of the Transportation Security Administration inspect baggage for prohibited items, including illegal drugs..."Categorical statements obtained from those three U.S. federal agencies would have lent more credibility to Akufo-Addos defense and would have gone
a long way toward clearing his battered reputation. But a media offensive with information only from the managers of regional transportation facilities helps keep the questions coming."
Kwame Okoampa, try to deal with the problem on hand! If I say "one plus one is equal to two", and you write a million articles about my credibility, it does not affect the equation! Forward Ever! Backwards Never!!! Forward Ever! Backwards Never!!!
Cheers!

Dear All!
We are happy to invite you to join our online briefings. We live in a very exciting moment of history in the struggle for the continental emancipation of Africa. As Hamid Dabashi puts it, I think the ability of the people, the democratic will of the people to generate and sustain information and globalize it is far more important than secret wheelings and dealings between the powers that be. Each and everyone of us needs a briefing as effective as the daily briefing that is sent to the White House for the President of the USA, in the the identification, defence and advancement of the interests of Main Street Africa.
We need the help of all of us in this endeavour! Thank you for your kind attention!God bless Africa! We shall overcome!
