Following a recent publication on conditions in the Accra Psychiatric Hospital which appeared in the New Crusading Guide newspaper of 31st December, 2009, a five-member ministerial committee was today, inaugurated by the Minister of Health, Dr. Benjamin Kumbuor, in Accra.
It is under the Chairmanship of Professor Oliver Commey, who is also the Chairman of Ghana Health Service Council. Mr. Benjamin Amponsah-Boateng is a lawyer and a member. Other members are Superintendent Michael Viera of the Police Hospital, Mr E.T Tidakbi, a Director of Ghana Health Service and Mrs Marian Tackie Director of Administration ministry of Health.
The Terms of reference of the committee are to validate findings as published by the New Crusading Guide newspaper, to determine the underlying cause and to recommend immediate, medium and long term to improve service delivery and conditions at the Hospital. The committee is to submit its report on the first of February 2010.
The Minister also commended Anas Aremeyaw Anas for the sacrificial work done and promised to deal with those who would be found culpable.
The Chairman of the Committee Professor Oliver Commey assured the Minister that, they will do a good work and thanked him for the confidence reposed in them.
