The Board of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (Gmet) has called on the government to create more awareness on fire fighting for staff concerning the dangers fire posed to lives and property.
It said training of staff on the prevention as well as fire fighting techniques would help ensure that documents of invaluable national weather and climate data in custody of the Agency were safe.
A release issued on Saturday and signed by Mr. Zindeme Minia, Deputy Director General of the Agency, said the Board had been charged to ensure the availability of enough water for fire-fighting through the provision of bore holes and harvesting of rainwater at the Head Office.
"There should also be the creation of effective electronic backup systems for storing meteorological date and fire insurance on property of the agency,'' it said.
