The recent claim of oil discovery at a hamlet called Jumbo in the Volta region has re-ignited an age-old boundary dispute between two adjoining districts-Nkwanta North and Nkwanta South.
While Nkwanta North MP, Bless Oti insists the find was within his Constituency, the District Chief Executive of Nkwanta South, Nikab Joseph has in a separate interview told XYZ News the find is within his District and not in Nkwanta North.
Jumbo by the Legislative Instrument is under Nkwanta South but for a long time we have been trying to resolve [the boundary] issue, he said.
Nikab Joseph however said he doubted the oil find could fester the age-old boundary dispute between the two districts.
We are of one ethnic origin, we come from one ancestry and we even say that [the find] might even help settle the boundary issue which has for long disenfranchised some of them who actually want to belong to one side or the other, adding: I know the discovery of oil is rather a blessing.
Nkwanta North MP, Bless Oti admitted to XYZ News that the site of the discovery falls directly in-between the two Districts but however added that: The people around the area vote under Nkwanta North not Nkwanta south.
The Discovery was made on Friday as a well was being dug in the home of a woman.
Hordes of anxious Residents thronged the site of the find as news of the discovery quickly spread throughout the village.
Some residents rushed there with 'jerry cans' and gallons to fetch samples of the crude oil. Soldiers were called to the scene to cordon off the site.
A team from the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation has been sent to the site of the find to ascertain if the dark liquid substance is indeed crude oil.
