Management of the Weija Dam will be spilling water from the Dam today.
Samson Ahi, Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing informed in an interview on PEACE FM morning show that “We have no choice than to spill…”
According to him, the spillage is necessary due to the rise in the water level following the recent rains.
He said if the spillage is not done, “the dam will overflow by itself due to the pressure of water that is coming from Nsawam. If we do it by ourselves, the effect will be very insignificant”.
“We will open one gate to reduce the water level….we will manage the spillage but we are dealing with nature and so we are calling on residents along the weija dam to relocate…temporal shelter will be mounted at vantage points until we finish with the spillage,” he added.
The Deputy Minister however added that residents who are adamant and refuse to relocate, “will be compelled to leave”.
