Authorities of the OLA Girls Senior High School in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, have issued a disclaimer to a publication which claimed that six students of the school had been defiled by their teacher.

The publication, over the weekend, caused lots of confusion and apprehension in the school among alumni, residents and dignitaries in the region.

The publication by screwlife.com, a satirical online portal, created the impression that six students of the prestigious high school had allegedly been impregnated by their Biology tutor.

The publication went viral on social media, raising serious concerns such that some top media houses sent their correspondents to the school for verification while some local radio stations carried the news, apparently unaware that it was false.

The publication had alleged among other things that the said teacher, God Is Bless Coffie, impregnated the six damsels in the Chapel of the catholic school under the guise of a Reproductive Health Experiment session.
It also alleged that when God Is Bless was arrested, he argued that “it was a mere experiment gone wrong and as a scientist such things were common with his discipline.”

The publication heightened tension and affected the reputation of the school, with many parents calling the school to verify while others drove to the school to check if their daughters were involved in the alleged defilement.

In an attempt to save the situation and clear the air, the headmistress of the school has issued a disclaimer saying “the publication is a fallacy and should be treated with gross disregard.”

It clarified among other things that there was no teacher in the school with such a name and that the school had nothing like a reproductive health experiment in the chapel.

It added that there was no arrest by the police and the picture accompanying the story was old since the cloth was no longer in use.

Expensive Joke

The Headmistress, Mrs Benedicta Afesi, in a phone interview with DAILY GUIDE, said “in fact although this is a joke, it really raised a lot of concerns.”

“It was an expensive joke and very uncalled for,” she stated,
adding, “we had calls from superiors, parents, other teachers and many others. Some of the parents threatened to withdraw their wards.”

Mrs Afesi said they had a hard time convincing some of the parents and that the management called an assembly and explained issues to the girls and encouraged them not to be distracted from their studies. There was a staff meeting to also ensure the morale of teachers and the school was intact.

The disclaimer, apart from the traditional media, was also shared on social media and other outlets to repair the damage caused by the screwlife.com publication.
