Some hawkers who ply their trade around the refurbished Kwame Nkrumah Circle(now Interchange) in Accra have poured out their frustration with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly after officials from the Assembly intensified moves to ward them off in an operation Wednesday.
The AMA has asked the hawkers to relocate or have their structures demolished.
The directive comes after President John Mahama inaugurated the three-tier interchange project which cost about 74 million euros on Monday.
But even before the project was commissioned hawkers had taken over the pedestrian walkways and were seen trading their wares indiscriminately within the new Interchange spot.
Several of the angry hawkers who spoke to Kasapa 102.5 FM said the move taken against them won’t favour Mahama’s second term bid in the December polls despite the huge project he’s set in the heart of the city.
“Mahama wants us to go back to our hometown. You have not even finished the pavements why then do you inaugurate the project? Ahead of the commissioning Monday we’ve been completely barred from operating around. No matter what, this project can’t be compared to the city of Dubai as they claim.”

WHO DOES NOT WANT VOTES ? AFTER TAKING TAXES FROM THIS POOR HAWKERS AND PROMISING THEM NEW RELOCATION .
they can go to hell. who cares. they should be allowed to come and sell on the pavement. dirty people. was the place created for them to come and sell there. myopic thinkers.
Thanks AMA for the good job done. I work around the circle area and i must confess pedestrians can walk on tiled pavements and the environment is so nice. Hawkers do ur worst we care less.
hahahaha vote for Nana Addo and he will allow you the chiiiit and peee on the streets. What ***barred word***!!!!!
Why does these hawkers always portray the NPP as an indiscipline party Why!!!
Most of these hawkers always vote for NPP so what they are saying is nothing. AMA will not give in to this indiscipline. We the discerning people will always vote for a party that ensures that the city is clean and healthy.
Ayayaaa e, Na interchange yedi?
I support them. Vote out mahama and chose nana! Vote massively for nana
***barred word*** ***barred word*** go to school and have a life.
Priorities are all wrong and the NDC has square pegs in round holes. So if the NDC were able to provide jobs for theses hawkers before this interchange was built a few years back would there be a need to sack anyone from the area today? No, instead of concentrating on providing jobs and the ability for people to buy food to feed their families, the NDC and JDM are spending money to build structures all over the place. Ghana was not ready for such an interchange now. The drivers are even afraid to use the new flyover and are still using the original circle on the ground and causing the same traffic as before. Why is this so? Because the lorries NEED to use the lorry station at the circle to drop off their passengers. The problem was not studies and therefore no real solution was provided. This is like the failed sugar factory all over again. Oh! Ghana.. God save us.
