The NDC Government has not been honest with Ghanaians on the amount of power the country is getting from the Bui dam, chief executive of the Tema Oil Refinery has stated.
According to Kwame Awuah Darko, the dam is not generating the expected amount of power needed to complement the country’s efforts at eliminating ‘dumsor’ and ensuring stable electricity supply.
Speaking to Good Evening Ghana’s Paul Adom Otchere, Mr. Awuah Darko said despite the huge amount of money spent on creating the power generating unit, Bui is barely producing one-third of power expected of it, a situation Mr. Awuah Darko blames on the poor engineering work done during the construction of the dam.
“One million dollars is equal to one megawatt so anytime you make an investment of a million dollars, you should be able to add one megawatt generation capacity to the country. Bui dam has an installed capacity of about 290 to 300 megawatts, but the available capacity is less than a 100 megawatts”.
Kwame Awuah Darko added that the governing NDC is having to suffer for the inefficiencies and incompetence of the erstwhile Kufuor administration as far as investment into the country’s power sector is concerned.

Well well well, thought NPP didnt add a single megawatt of power to the national grid as has been trumpeted by NDC all this while? Confusion and incompetence
We all know what NDC did when they were initially confronted with this dumsor league. Instead waiting for Bui Dam to start operation on the appointed date, you hurriedly commenced its operations knowing very well the facility wasn't ready. Now you come back and blame others. Oh Ghana my mother land. The politics in Ghana is disgusting
Not surprise he is talking like this. A one time parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the NDC. Blame NPP for everything. Ghanaians arise for change. Dont be deceived by these CLS people.
I am surprise. If the NDC has not been honest on Bui, why blame the NPP? In the first year of the NDC, they told Ghanaians of evaluating all the contracts of NPP which Bui was one. If they were not satisfy with the engineering of the project could they not vary it? Again NDC has not stop at calling the name of NPP's inefficiencies whenever it comes up. But I have not heard anything about Bui. After all we know those who provided the Blocks for the job yet if engineering was properly done, why NDC did not change it. They added new designs "to accommodate the President's office at the Jubilee Hse". Couldn't they have done same to Bui? Confuse!!! Honesty is needed here.
Why would the NDC government keep us in the dark about the inefficiencies of an NPP government? As history tells us, the ndc has never missed any opportunity to point out the mistakes of the NPP, so why has the silence over this particular issue?
